Visa exemptions

I. The citizens of the following states, the holders of all the types of passports, do not need visas for the entry on the territory of the Republic of Moldova for a period of stay until 90 days, during six months from the moment of the first entry:

II. Refugees and stateless persons who are not citizens of States listed above, but those living in and possessing travel documents issued by the abovementioned States

(Resedocument, Matkustusasiakirja, Resebevis or Främlingspass, Muukalaispassi, Utlendingspass in case of Sweden, Finland and Norway),

are exempted from the obligation to hold a visa when crossing the state border of the Republic Moldova, taking advantage of the right to stay in the country for up to 90 days within 6 months from the date of first entry.

III. The holders of the diplomatic and service passports, who are citizens of the following states do not need visas for the entry on the territory of the Republic of Moldova for the period up to 90 days during 6 months:

  1. Brazil
  2. People's Republic of China
  3. Peru
  4. Qatar
  5. Republic of Indonesia
  6. Republic of Iran
  7. Turkmenistan
  8. Vietnam

IV. The citizens of the following states, holders of the visas (not transit) and permits of residence, issued by the EU or Schengen countries, do not need visas for the entry on the territory of the Republic of Moldova for a period of stay until 90 days, during six months from the moment of the first entry:

  1. People's Republic of China
  2. State of Qatar
  3. State of Kuwait

Citizens of countries not listed above do not need an invitation for obtaining a visa for the Republic of Moldova.

Also, foreigners that meet the following criteria do not need an invitation for a visa, regardless of their nationality:

  1. a minor whose parent, a foreign citizen, is in possession of a residence permit in the Republic of Moldova or identity card for stateless persons, provided that it is valid for at least 90 days from the date of the requested visa;
  2. Foreigners who require a transit visa and an airport transit visa provided that the provisions of article 6 paragraph (1), d) from the Law nr. no. 200 of 16.07.2010are respected;
  3. Citizens of countries with which Moldova has signed international treaties in this regard or stateless persons residing in these states;
  4. A minor whose parent is a foreign citizen married to a citizen of the Republic of Moldova;
  5. Foreigners who hold a residence permit or a valid visa (except Transit Visa), issued by a EU Member State or a state party to the Schengen Agreement;
  6. Stateless persons who provide proof of birth on the territory of the Republic of Moldova or SSRM.

Types of visas

A visa can be issued for a single, two or multiple entries. A visa cannot be issued for a group of persons. The Moldovan diplomatic and consular missions abroad issue the following types of visas, depending on the purpose of stay:

 

    • Type „A” Visa (airport transit visa) - allows the foreign citizen to transit the international zone of an airport of the Republic of Moldova, without entering the territory of state, at a stopover or a transfer between two sections of an international flight. Airport transit visa is a mandatory requirement for the nationals of the countries whose citizens need a visa to entry the Republic of Moldova.
    • Type “B” Visa (transit visa) – is issued, upon the request of a foreigner who pass the territory of the Republic of Moldova on his way to a third state, for the same validity period as of the visa to the destination country. A person in transit status is allowed to remain in the Republic of Moldova for a period of up to 5 days per one transit. Transit visas could be with one or multiple entries.
    • Type “C” Visa (short term visa) – is issued for a fixed period of time, with one, two or multiple entries, with a period of stay not exceeding 90 days during 6 months from the date of first entry. Short stay visa is issued for the following purposes:

 

1. official – foreigners employed in the governments, public administrations or international organizations;

2. tourism – foreigners having tourism as purpose of journey;

3. visit – foreigners intending to visit Moldovan citizens or foreign citizens holders of valid permanent residence permits in Moldova;

4. business – foreigners visiting the Republic of Moldova for economic and trade goals, for concluding contracts or conducting negotiations, for checking out the use and functioning process of their goods bought or sold within commercial and industrial cooperation contracts, as well as for foreigners who are or intend to become associates or shareholders in Moldovan companies;

5. transport – foreigners who are going to travel for short periods of time, in order to perform professional activities related to transport of goods or passengers;

6. sport activities – foreigners who travel to the Republic of Moldova for a limited period of stay in order to participate in sport competitions;

7. cultural, scientific, humanitarian, religious, medical treatment for a short term, other activities that do not contravene to the legislation of the Republic of Moldova – under the condition of justifying the need to travel to the Republic of Moldova.

  • Type “D” Visa (long term visa) – is issued for a period not exceeding 12 months, with one or multiple entries, for a stay up to 90 days during six months from the first entry into the country that allows the foreigner to submit the request for a residence permit. This type of visa is issued for next purposes: entrepreneurship activities, work, studies, family reunion, humanitarian and religious activities, diplomatic and official activities, medical treatment.

Documents required

In accordance with Article 23 of the Law on foreigners in the Republic of Moldova visa application must be accompanied by:

 

    • the signed application form - see: Visa application form
    • a recent photograph (35x45mm)
    • travel document (valid at least 3 months after the expected entry), with blank pages where the visa can be applied,
    • documents indicating the purpose of travel (except the case of a private visit),
    • proof of sufficient means of subsistence both for the period of stay in and for departure from the Republic of Moldova,
    • medical insurance valid on the territory of the Republic of Moldova (minimum cover 30.000 euro),
    • reservation at a tourist accommodation and the travel itinerary or, if applicable, the commitment of maintenance and accommodation filled and signed by a person from the Republic of Moldova (- see: Formularul angajamentului de luare în întreţinere şi/sau de cazare privată ),
    • reservation of round-trip ticket valid up to destination or, the driving license, the green card and the registration documents of the vehicle, if travelling by car,
    • original of an invitation issued by the Office of Migration and Asylum or the resident permit or valid Visa issued by a member state of the European Union or of States Parties to the Schengen Agreement (except Transit Visa).

May be accepted as proof of sufficient means of subsistence the following:

 

    • MDL cash, cash and/or traveller's checks in foreign currency, accepted by banks in the Republic of Moldova;
    • cards (debit, etc..) accompanied by statements of account (on the bases of which cards have been issued), which confirm the amount of money (in Moldovan Lei or foreign currency) in the applicant's accounts, to which he may have access during the stay in the Republic of Moldova. Statements to be issued not later than 10 days before applying for a visa;
    • submitted written guarantee from a person who invites the foreigner - see: Formularul angajamentului de luare în întreţinere şi/sau de cazare privată

Visa fee

Consular processing fee in proper payment - the SEK equivalent of the respective EUR amount should be transferred to the account of the Embassy of Moldova. The recipe should be included together with the visa application as a confirmation of the money transfer. In case when the transfer is made directly from the applicant’s account through Internet, the visa issuing is postponed until the money reach the Embassy account.

The Embassy does not accept personal checks or cash.

Other information
